Everything you need to know about the Profitec Ride
What is the Profitec Ride?
The Ride is Profitec's latest dual boiler espresso machine in their range, geared for use in the home or office, to produce artisan quality coffee. Being trhe latest model to come out of their German HQ, it has some pretty slick features added, including the ability to warm up boilers independantly, a super fast heat up element, plus a much welcome auto power on/off feature, so no more waiting for it to heat up in the morning.
It's an E61 group espresso machine, constructed from steel and finished in chrome. It comes with two boilers - brew boiler & steam boiler, shot timer, PID for precision temperature control over both boilers and a 2.8L internal water reservoir all housed in a stainless steel housing.
Who is it suited to?
The Profitec Ride is geared towards people wanting to drink amazing quality coffee in the home or office, but with the precision of dual boiler control over temperature. If you are interested in playing around with the types of coffee you use (roasts styles or origins), or the way you brew it (varying temperature), but don't want to go over the £2100 mark, then the Ride if the machine for you.
What is the build quality like?
Similar to a Rocket, the Profitec Ride is built exceptionally well, but with the look and feel of an Audi (Classically German). It weighs around 35KG, so it's reassuringly heavy. The unit is housed around a solid stainless steel chassis, so it's very stable.
The rear, sides and the cup rail are all coated in anthracite coloured powder coating, giving it a really nice presence. The overall attention to detail is exceptional, with excellent finish both inside and outside the machine. It has beautiful clean lines across it's production, which give it a luxury feel.
What's so good about it?
The Profitec Ride has separate insulated brass boilers for both brewing and steam, which you can turn on/off independantly, alowing you to heat up just the brew boiler very quickly (for ultra fast espresso). These enable simultaneous brewing of espresso and steaming of milk with ultimate temperature control and stability.
The fully programmable PID (electronic temperature control), uses sensors inside the boilers to deliver precise temperatures, ensuring stability to within 1°C. This feature allows for precise adjustments to suit specific types of coffee, so total variable control to suit your needs and tastes.
It contains a domestic grade vibration, separate boiler and pump pressure gauges, a cool touch technology (anti-burn) stainless steel steam wand, separate hot water tap, a large stainless steel drip tray and a large cup warmer.
The steam arm is tool to touch design, meaning you will not burn yourself, even if you touch the piping on either.
It has a few additional tech features such as Brew group cleaning reminder, which is triggered based on your setting in the PID for number of times used.
The Ride may be classed as a domestic machine, but it is considerably powerful, capable of producing excellent espresso and perfect micro-foam for flat whites, lattes and cappuccinos at a level that is normally only seen in commercial equipment.
What Profitec say:
The RIDE is characterised by the fact that both the coffee and steam boilers are heated simultaneously. This allows the steam temperature to be reached much faster, ensuring a more stable steam performance during espresso extraction. Optionally, the RIDE can also be used as a single-boiler machine.
With the Fast Heat-Up mode activated, the machine is ready to use much faster. Regardless, the temperatures of both boilers can be individually adjusted via the PID control. The RIDE also offers you the option of programming automatic switch-on and switch-off times and much more. These settings are displayed on the subtle screen, along with the shot timer.
The modular, bottomless portafilter can be quickly and easily converted with silicone attachments (1 spout and 2 spouts). This not only saves space but also allows for easy and hygienic cleaning.
And then there's the look: The elegant matt black side panels stand out in contrast to the satin-finished front, the cup tray, and the silver drip tray. The pressure gauges harmonise with the display and round off the appearance.
