Hario - Kabuto - Precision Hand Grinder

Hario - Kabuto - Precision Hand Grinder

THE LATEST MID RANGE PRECISION HAND GRINDER.

Description

What is the Kabuto?

The Kabuto is the latest hand grinder release, from the iconic Japanese coffee equipment producer Hario.  While Hario remain a producer of excellent quality brewers and servers (the most recognised being the V60), every now and again they release a hand grinder within their range.

Previous Hario hand grinders have been on the lower end of the budget, aimed at the entry level, to keep the price low and access easy.  However, since they last released a grinder, the market has changed dramatically, with the new minimum standard much higher than it was previously.  This standard has been set by the likes of Comandante and Made By Knock, who have pioneered the next generation of precision hand grinders.

So to keep in line with the current market designs and features, they have released the Kabuto, which by all accounts is proving to be a very good quality unit, considering design, build quality, features and ultimately - price.

Just like it's main competitors, the Kubuto is a slick cylinder, with a removable lid, which is connected to the arm.  Under this is the chamber, which holds circa 28g of roasted coffee.

If you detatch the top from the base, you will find (just like the main competitors), a steel mechanism that allows you to adjust the burr distance in a stepped format, ranging from course (cafetiere style) to fine (espresso style) to ultra fine (Turkish style).

The overall quality of the unit and grind quality are genuinely very good quality.  They are a huge step up from the likes of a Hario Mini Mill, Hario Mini Mill Plus or a Rhino Wares unit.  That said, they are notably lower in quality to that of both a Comandante or Knock grinder, which is to be expected.

Our conclusion:

At £100, for most home coffee drinkers that are not looking for or expecting ultra high end results (And don't want to spend more), but are satisfied with very good hand grinder, with consistent grind quality, then it's a very good option to go for.

There's a good reason that Comandante & Knock grinders are considerably more expensive, considering branding, premium parts, burr design and that extra level of precision that sets them apart.  But if those things don't keep you up at night, then the Kabuto will be a more than capable grinder for you, and one that the majority of normal humans will enjoy.

What Hario say about the Kabuto:

With an all-black body, a subtle HARIO logo, and an internal stainless steel five-star burr, this grinder is perfect for those who are interested in coffee but haven't fully dived in yet! Its sleek, lightweight, and stylish design makes it an ideal entry-level grinder.

KABUTO (兜) is the Japanese word for a samurai helmet, worn in battle as a symbol of the warrior’s beliefs. Just like HARIO’s dedication to coffee, having a high-quality coffee grinder is essential to bringing out the full potential of exceptional coffee beans.

Kabuto grinders come with a standard 1 year back to base warranty with Machina. *See our terms and conditions for further information
